“Unknown Waters”: A floating cinema in Venice, rethinking the city from the perspective of its lagoon.

A project curated by Edoardo Aruta and Paolo Rosso (Microclima), in collaboration with Ocean Space / TBA21-Academy, Pentagram Stiftung and Palazzo Grassi - Punta della Dogana - Pinault Collection.

The Floating Cinema, an idea from the minds of Edoardo Aruta and Paolo Rosso (Microclima), in collaboration with Ocean Space / TBA21-Academy, Pentagram Stiftung and Palazzo Grassi - Punta della Dogana - Pinault Collection, will offer a series of film screenings on a floating platform, located near the Giudecca island in the centre of the lagoon. The program will take place from August 27 to September 5, 2020, starting at 19.00 for the duration of the festival. Spectators will be able to watch the screenings from their boats or from a floating platform designed for members of the public without access to a boat, divided into families in order to respect social distancing, with a free reservation.

In addition to collaboration with our partner organizations, the Floating Cinema is made possible with the contributions from numerous institutions.Included among the ranks of the historical institutions are the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Querini Stampalia Foundation, Venice Civic Museums Foundation - Fortuny Museum, Luigi Nono Foundation, and Iuav University of Venice. Included among the younger organizations are: About, Awai, DH Office, Festival dei Matti, Galleria Alma Zevi, Galleria Michela Rizzo, Ginko Film, Laguna B & We Are Here Venice, Spazio Punch, and V.E.R-V. Additionally we have collaborated with national and international organizations that have a firm connection with Venice: Casa Capra (Schio, VI), Dolomiti Contemporanee (Erto, PN - Borca di Cadore, BL), Lo Schermo dell'Arte (Florence) and Magazzino Italian Art (New York, USA).
